Looking back, I’m not surprised I faced so much rejection.
Inevitably, I found myself dead broke and with my confidence at an all time low.
After so many knockbacks, I became FEARFUL of engaging in sales conversations.
I knew there had to be a better way.
A year later, I joined the sales team of a photocopying company, where I met my next mentor, Dave Hodgson (or Hodge, as I knew him).
Hodge was an amazing guy, and he just did sales differently.
Imagine the complete opposite of the Danny DeVito salesman I mentioned earlier.
Rather than being sleazy, pushy and manipulative…
He carried himself with elegance, class and authenticity, he loved people, he asked great questions, and everyone warmed to him immediately.
Hodge sadly passed recently, but he had a huge, ever-lasting impact on my life.
Anyway, after spending time around Hodge and implementing everything he taught me, I contrived a sort of formula that almost ensured people bought what I was selling.
Before long, I became the top-performing salesperson in the company, and sales became… dare I say … easy?
While everyone else was struggling by, using old-school, hard-sell, pushy sales tactics…
I was getting to work early, getting straight on the phone, smashing my numbers, and I’d be finished by lunchtime and on the golf course!
So, I substituted all the noise for this one trusty formula that I’ve been hammering ever since.
I used it to turn my small family tile & bathroom business (that we started in a hut on the out-skirts of Birmingham) into a 7-figure showroom…
Then, after taking the plunge to start my own sales consultancy business, the Elite Closing Academy, I started training other business owners and sales professionals using this formula.
